Masonry and scaffolding installation for Montreal’s first luxury district
We carried out an exterior brick design featuring four distinct patterns: some areas showcase raised brick headers, others highlight full brick, some are angled, and finally, a classic standard bond. Before starting each façade, we carefully prepared the layout of the patterns and maintained constant communication with the architect, allowing us to follow every design detail with precision. Once the work was completed, we applied an anti-graffiti coating to protect the masonry.
Our masons laid an impressive quantity of concrete blocks in the underground parking, approximately 300,000 standard blocks. These blocks were installed to ensure the facility’s safety and functionality, including firewalls and stairwells.
The team tackled a unique engineering challenge by installing massive support columns for the cinema’s noise barrier wall, as the existing slab alone could not sustain this significant load. Each column was made up of three concrete blocks, with 26-foot openings between each one, a never-before-seen configuration that left no room for error. A total of four columns were erected, topped with lintels bearing on all of these supports. A shoring system ensured their stability throughout the concrete curing phase.
An impressive interior scaffolding system was deployed to facilitate the glaziers’ work. This scaffolding provided access to the skylights while offering safe platforms and debris chutes, keeping the worksite clean and efficient. Rosette systems offer great flexibility and allow configurations that adapt perfectly to space constraints. Our team of bricklayers also used a free-standing rosette scaffold and hoists to efficiently move the blocks used to support the noise barrier wall.
