Heritage building restoration, structural reinforcement and access system
The facade was entirely renewed with a brand new concrete stone cladding, in keeping with the character of the 1926 Rivoli Theatre. Work began with the removal of the existing stones, carefully preserving those featuring architectural details in order to reproduce them faithfully. All necessary measurements were taken before proceeding with the complete demolition of the remaining cladding. This step allowed for precise documentation of the facade’s distinctive features, including its many projecting elements and irregularities. A new concrete stone cladding was then installed by our masons.
A rosette scaffolding system was installed to allow the masons to carry out all phases of the project across every floor. This type of structure was chosen for its capacity to bear significant loads, particularly for the handling of stones. Our specialized labourers managed the cutting and delivery of stones throughout the scaffolding. A pedestrian walkway was also integrated to maintain safe circulation around the building, which remained open throughout the duration of the work. At the client’s request, the scaffolding tarps featured a printed image of the building, providing a pleasant visual during construction.
The brick masonry structure was demolished and rebuilt to reinforce the building’s structure. During the work, our team discovered that joists integrated into the masonry were supporting the roof. This unforeseen finding became an opportunity to demonstrate our adaptability, as we designed and implemented a shoring system extending from the ground floor all the way to the roof. To minimize disruption to occupants, the shoring was installed on angle irons anchored to a portion of the masonry that was kept in place. Once the new masonry wall was rebuilt, the joists were replaced and the shoring was removed.
On the remaining facades, targeted repairs were carried out to restore deteriorated areas. Our team used a suspended platform to access the various sections of the building. Repointing work was completed, and bricks were replaced or repaired based on their condition. Cracks were also treated to prevent water infiltration and ensure the long-term durability of the building envelope. These interventions restored the facades to their original integrity and appearance.
